History 12

The Unit Test for Topic 4 and due date for work is next Monday. (Test will be 70 multiple choice questions, 5 map items, and 2 out of 4 long answer questions at 10 marks each. The total is, therefore, out of 95 marks).

  • Tuesday, November 21 - The Holocaust.

  • Wednesday, November 22 - Grade 11 & 12 Assembly to hear historian and journalist Gwynne Dyer.
  • Thursday, November 23 - The World at War; The Holocaust AV
  • Friday, November 24 - The Wartime Conferences. Test and Topic 4 work due Monday.

Comparative Civilizations 12

The Middle Ages Unit Test is on Monday. (As usual, the first section is closed-book, with 10 image identification items - mostly titles of works and cities where they can be found, though a couple might ask for names of artists. There will also be 10 items identifying architectural features, 40 multiple choice questions, 3 longish answer questions requiring that you interpret illustrations at 5 marks each, and an essay question valued at 6 for composition and 2 x 6 for content. The total value of the test is, therefore, 103 marks.)

  • Tuesday, November 21 - Video or filmstrip: Man the Measure of All Things. New Package assigned (due in about 2 weeks - note, this is a very large unit). Work on package.
  • Wednesday, November 22 - Brunelleschi PowerPoint. Work on package.
  • Thursday, November 23 - Donatello. Work on package.
  • Friday, November 24 - Massaccio & Boticelli. Work on package.

Social Studies 11

Expect the unit test for this unit to be in about a week. (This will include around 45 multiple choice questions, 5 definitions at 2 marks each, and 4 long answer questions from a selection of 6 at 6 marks each. The total value of the test will be around 79 marks).

  • Wednesday, November 22 - Take up p. 127. Begin The Valour & the Horror; Savage Christmas and viewing guide. Note assignment. Read pp. 127-132. Do sidebar #1-2, p. 129 & 1-4, p. 132.
  • Thursday, November 23 - Take up pp. 129 & 132. Complete Savage Christmas. Read the sidebar on pp. 115-116 & handouts. Do #1-2, p. 116. Complete the assignment from Savage Christmas for next class.
  • Friday, November 24 - Hand in Savage Christmas assignment. Take up p. 116. Discuss Japanese Internment – compare to Japanese treatment of Allied prisoners. Video on the Holocaust (Frontline; Memory of the Camps – Chapter 4. Available online at http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/camp/view/4_hi.htm .) Assignment: Holocaust deniers claim that this genocide never happened. In a short composition, after doing some additional research, explain what evidence exists to prove that the Holocaust is a historical fact. 10 marks. Due Monday.
