Essay 2 is ongoing and is due on Friday, November 17. The Unit Test for Topic 4 has been postponed to Monday, November 27, so as not to conflict with the Famine event. Other readings and work are as given in the Topic outline assigned on October 27.

  • Monday, November 6 - Appeasement.
  • Tuesday, November 7 - Appeasement (concluded) and AV The Road to War; France.
  • Wednesday, November 8 - Colonies in the Interwar Period.
  • Thursday, November 9 - The Spanish Civil War.
  • Friday, November 10 - Remembrance Day material. World War II lecture begins.

With the boat cruise this week, the Great Thaw package due date is set for Tuesday, November 14.

  • Monday, November 6 - Gothic Architecture. Slides -- especially Canterbury, Salisbury, Gloucester and Westminster Abbey in the UK, Notre Dame and St. Chapelle in France.
  • Tuesday, November 7 - Faith in Numbers video. Note: This is a quirky item that deals with how change occurs in history and covers more than just the Middle Ages period. Though filmed in the early 1980's it is still highly relevant.
  • Wednesday, November 8 - The Western Tradition; the Middle Ages video (Eugen Weber). This is available at www.learner.org in streaming video.
  • Thursday, November 9 - The Western Tradition; the Feudal Order video (Eugen Weber). This is available at www.learner.org
  • Friday, November 10 - Romance & Reality package assigned. Filmstrip. The Great Thaw package is due on Tuesday.

Social Studies 11

The Family History Assignment due date has been extended until the first day back after the Christmas break -- to allow students to meet with older family members. Unit Test on the Introduction to the end of Chapter 2 is this Tuesday.

  • Monday, November 6 - Literature of War Assignment due in class today. Lecture on the end of the First World War, video on the Paris Peace Conference. Read pp. 60-66. Do #1-6, p. 66.
  • Tuesday, November 7 - Unit Test. Read pp. 68-74. Do #1-7, p. 74.
  • Wednesday, November 8 - Take up homework. Introduction to post-war Canada. The Winnipeg General Strike, Lecture and video. Read pp. 74-79. Do #1-6, p. 74.
  • Thursday, November 9 - Take up homework. Filmstrip and questions; The Ecstatic 1920s video. Read pp. 79-88. Do #1-5, p. 88 and #1-3, in the sidebar on p. 86.
  • Friday, November 10 - Take up homework. Background to the Great Depression. AV on the Depression (if available). Read p. 89-97. Do #1-6, p. 97 and #1-2 in the sidebar on p. 91 and #1 in the sidebar on p. 94.
